About the Author
Clive Deadman qualified as a chemist and worked in the African mining industry, before moving into the venture capital arena. Over the last 15 years, he has introduced several groundbreaking asset management initiatives to United Utilities businesses, in the UK and internationally. Clive is a council member of the Institute of Asset Management and chairman of the Energy Innovation Centre's Investment Forum.

Finally, a business management book for the Utility sector

I found this book Strategic Asset Management on a site about Asset Management, and when I read it was focusing on utilities, I was really thrilled, and ordered it immediately. When reading it, the insights and recommendations struck me right in the stomach! I can really relate to many of the examples!
Great thanks for providing this sector a really good management book - to enable the utility companies to find clearer concepts of strategy, in times they really need to face change - all over the world!

A complex matter made enjoyable

I really enjoyed this book, it is the closest thing to a `page turner' I have read on this topic. The short chapter on the history of utilities provides an excellent background to appreciating the issues facing today's asset manager in utilities. Whilst the chapter on utility regulation would best be appreciated by someone with some regulation experience, the understanding and insights gained from the description and application of the capability model in the remaining chapters would be of benefit even in non-regulated organisations, such as local councils. It clearly shows how and why different organisations, even within the same industry, may be implementing different asset management systems. The story is developed piece by piece so that even complex matters can be easily understood and lots of examples, short case studies and useful charts provide further clarification. Moreover the book looks good and feels good, it hefts nicely in the hand - making it ideal for reading on the train, or in bed!
