There are few books I wish I had stumbled upon years ago. This one lands at the top of that short list. With all the (mis)information available about weight loss, health, and exercise it is easy to get confused, or worse yet, get convinced that conventional diets (low fat, caloric restriction, etc.) and static-state cardio routines are the ways to achieve a healthy weight and a healthy body. That is what I did, and after years of chasing a goal of having a thin body, all I had achieved was a chubby tummy, damaged metabolism, and an overall decrease in my health. I didn't understand why this was happening because I thought I was doing everything right. Of course, since I had yet to learn better, my solution to this problem was to do more cardio and cut back even more on my calories. *sigh* Like I said, I *really* wish I had this book about 15 years ago. The Paleo Coach taught me that reaching and maintaining a healthy body weight is the accidental side effect of a healthy lifestyle, not dieting or sweating buckets for an hour at the gym. So how does one eat right and move right in order to achieve such grand, previously unattainable results? Well, that is all laid out by Jason Seib in this book, and it starts with changing one's headspace. I love Jason's approach to the topic of health and wellness. He combines his vast knowledge of science, a sense of humor and a healthy dose of common sense to guide even the most wayward dieter onto the right path. A path that will lead anyone and everyone who applies his advice to a level of health that is better than they ever thought they could achieve. I'm living proof of that! Thanks to Jason's advice and guidance, I have seen nearly every single health problem disappear (including my excess fat!) and I currently enjoy a level of energy and vitality that previously I could only dream about. I highly recommend this book to everyone, no matter where you are on your health journey. Whether you are new to paleo or a seasoned veteran of the lifestyle, this is a must-read!

This book is great!

Jason Seib has done for health and fitness what Tim Ferris did for the four-hour workweek: he has taken all the myths we hold dear and stripped them away. What is left is a route to a better body that is shockingly simple. No need for long hours of cardio, warrior like workouts or starvation diets. According to Seib you only need two hours total per week to get fit. Skeptics will think this is too good to be true but Paleo Coach lays out a plan for doing so. Quick fitness is possible becuase so much of the amazing advice is grounded in simplicity: walk more, do short sprints, pay attention to what you put into your body.
The Paleo Coach is divided into three sections: Think, Eat and Move. Each of these deals with a different aspect of health. As a psychologist I am drawn particularly to the "think" section and heartily endorse Seib's advice about changing your mindset where health and fitness are concerned. He alternates between challenge and cheekiness. Sections like "you can't fix a body you hate" and "scale addiction" seem tailor-made for the weight and body image obsessed (and who among us doesn't feel a tug in that direction?). Readers wh are particularly curious about adopting Paleo eating strategies will find the recipes and nutrition advice in the "eat" section to be particularly helpful.
Seib brings his experience as a fitness trainer, gym owner, paleo guru, and all around intelligent person to bear on life's most important topic: health. This book is so worth it!

Very Little New Here

I really am sorry to be the first negative review, but someone has to be honest here. If this is the very first Paleo book you've ever picked up, then you will like the tone and the information. It really is an easy read with good information. If, like me, this is not the first Paleo book and you wanted to pick this book up because it's called Paleo COACH and you thought there'd be good information about how to work out and what to do if you don't have a good gym nearby (or possibly would rather not pay your local crossfit affiliate several hundred each month), then I am sorry to say you should look elsewhere. Eat well, move often, lift heavy things occasionally, sprint occasionally. Sound familiar?
Jason sounds like a great coach. If you live near him, you should probably go to his gym. If you don't live near him, his book tells you how to find a trainer near you. His book also tells you that if you have any excuses then you haven't made your health your priority. Everything else can be found in any one of the Paleo books that probably came up when you searched for this one.
I returned my Kindle edition for a refund. I am much happier with It Starts With Food, Practical Paleo, Everyday Paleo, and Well Fed. I was really hoping for something that would help break down the exercise portion of the Paleo lifestyle for best effects. This book is a good overview, but isn't what I was looking for.
