Powerful!

A gripping, emotional tale of the painful struggle to balance familial discord. Amelia is truly a strong woman to have given so much in a desperate attempt to better the lives of those she loves. No one wants to see a family member suffer, but how much can a person take? She gave selflessly for so long, emotionally and financially, if only to continue the tenuous grasp on a glimmer of hope, that THIS will be the last time! This will be what turns things around. This story is a perfect example of what it means to always hold on to the good in someone, in the hopes that some where inside that good still exists and can be brought to the surface again. It's important to look for the good in others, but what do you do when you can longer find it? Where do you draw the line? Amelia struggled through all these questions and became a stronger person on her quest for the answers.

Heart-wrenching

I found this memoir to be a story of courage and determination to stand for children's rights against all odds. I enjoyed this book so much I couldn't put it down for more than a short time until finished.
Amelia was truly a servant to her family. She drew from her personal experience to connect with the reader in an inspiring book.

Powerful, scary, amazing----and TRUE!

Can you imagine what it would be like to watch your nieces and nephews tortured in front of your eyes? I couldn't... until I read this book. My brother gave me this and, though it was a harrowing read, I'm glad he did. I will NEVER stand by and allow kids to be hurt. Never.
